Happy Halloween!

I have confidence in sunshine
I have confidence in rain
I have confidence that spring will come again
Besides which you see I have confidence in me
Strength doesn’t lie in numbers
Strength doesn’t lie in wealth
Strength lies in nights of peaceful slumbers
When you wake up — Wake Up!
It tells me all I trust I lead my heart to
All I trust becomes my own
I have confidence in confidence alone

“Christopher Robin!” he said in a loud whisper.

“Hallo!”

“I think that the bees suspect something!”

“What sort of thing?”

“I don’t know.  But something tells me that they’re suspicious!”

“Perhaps they think that you’re after their honey.”

“It may be that.  You never can tell with bees.”

There was another silence, and then he called down to you again.

“Christopher Robin!”

“Yes?”

“Have you an umbrella in your house?”

“I think so.”

“I wish you would bring it out here, and walk up and down with it, and look up at me every now and then, and say, ‘Tut-tut, it looks like rain.’I think, if you did that, it would help the deception which we are practicing on these bees.”

Well, you laughed to yourself, “Silly old Bear!” but you didn’t say it aloud because you were so fond of him, and you went home for your umbrella.

“Oh, there you are!” called down Winnie-the-Pooh as soon as you got back to the tree.“I was beginning to get anxious.I have discovered that the bees are now definitely Suspicious.”

This years Halloween was such a special one.  The kids walked in a group with their friends, and it felt very calm for the adults, I think we have crossed a certain threshold with them of confidence and ability.  They knocked, the trick or treated, they thanked went to the next house.

I love that in a sea of super heroes and ninjas, Finley was confident in his socks and mary janes because of his love for this story.  We all told him how amazing he looked, like the real Christopher Robin, and I think that’s all he needed from his siblings and parents to walk in the confidence he needed, which was great because I had been worried.  But he proved me wrong.  Sweet little guy.

Afterwards, we all dined together, Poppy ate 3 bowls of chili, while the kids played, and this morning the Switch Witch came and left a new toy the each child to replace the candy.  I wasn’t sure we’d do it this year, but the kids reminded me, “I’m so excited for my new toy tomorrow morning!” so I made a trip to wal-mart last night to make it happen.  I still wondered if they would be disappointed, but they woke up happy and excited.  They didn’t mention the candy they had collected.  “She’s going to give the candy to little ones who don’t want teeth!”  (Meaning–me–and the dumpster)
