DIY Facial Moisturizer AND Cleanser

Sorry store brands, but we are sooooooo over.

Making my own facial cleanser and moisturizer all in one that works better than you ever did, for so much less money with things I have around my house?  I’m sorry, I’m sure you understand.  It’s a matter of finances…well, and quality.  And I am pretty sure you were never that kind to my skin, although I always wanted you to be.

And, now I share with you!  Have you ever washed your face with oil?  If you would have told my teenage self, I would have flipped out!  “Oil is the devil!” I would have countered.  But I was wrong.

Oil, especially coconut oil is skin’s best friend.

The base of this face cleanser is coconut oil.  If you touch coconut oil and rub it between your fingers, you will feel how moisturizing it feels on your skin.  For your face or body, coconut oil is actually more hydrating than average store bough lotions because it doesn’t just moisturize the surface of your skin, but it penetrates deep layers of your skin and strengthens tissues beneath  (Huffington Post).  It also removes dead skin cells and any flakey textures from your skin’s surface.  It absorbs right into your skin without feeling greasy, and I don’t even wash it off when I apply it before bed.  It removed make-up gently and easily, allowing you to easily swipe it off under your eyes.   So many uses, one oil you have in the pantry already.

I add three essential oils when I first make my face cleanser/moisturizer.  It makes it smells delish of course, but there is so much more to it.  Frankincense is first, it is a big power house oil for skin and accomplishes many things in just these few drops–

5 Drops Frankincense:

Frankincense promotes healthy skin, reduces scar tissue, promotes cellular health, reduces wrinkles, promotes improved vision, reduces non cancerous growths (tag moles and moles on skin), heals acne scars, skin infections, eczema and balances hormones.

4 drops Lavender:

Lavender is widely used for it’s calming and relaxing properties, perfect before bedtime.  It soothes skin irritations, helps skin recover quickly and smells like a spa.

3 drops Peppermint:

Peppermint stimulates skin and causes blood to come to the skin, which increases oxygenation and skin health, you will feel it in the tingle as you apply.

I stir them into the coconut oil with a spoon, cap the lid on and I am set for months and months!

You can purchase coconut oil at most grocery stores, we get ours at Costco, no messing around!

You can purchase essential oils here:  http://www.mydoterra.com/tinygreenelephants/

A great kit that includes all three of these oils and more is called the Family Physician Kit.  It’s a good deal if you are looking for a healthy variety and to save some money, categorized under Product Packs.  It looks like this  —>

Hey so I know this may not be feasible (or may sound SO lazy!) but would I be able to buy this product from you? I pay so much for beauty products that don’t work anyway and would love for that money to go towards your adoption. Email me at flynn.222@osu.edu if you think that’d be a feasible idea. I know I could make it myself but honestly may never make the time to do so :/

Hahaha, I actually really understand your feelings on this. It’s easy, but i you don’t have a ll the ingredients and all that, it can make it trickier.

I will totally make it for you if you want it….I don’t think it would be too hard to ship 🙂

How much coconut oil did you use? I have that same coconut oil and love it. It looks like I need to buy more essential oils.
