When I was a teacher, I would play classical music as the kids painted, just like I do for my kids to make it a peaceful, relaxing time for them, and to have them focus on their art longer.
Sometimes, even in fun activities, kids need to be ‘modeled’ the ‘how-to’s, so I will paint with a brush, and talk about what I’m doing, “Look, I am making wavy lines for water,” or “making eyes for a face…”
“Look, now I making a face, an’ a banana!” –Finley
Little ‘lij-ey-lou has come so far in his art career, from detesting to loving! He’s coated in paint, and he could not be happier about it.
And of course, even with a smock, I think as moms, we gotta embrace the mess because life is short, art is fun, and shorts can turn into works of art themselves 🙂

I love little children doing art, I think it brings outs their imagination. I absolutely love, love, love, the peach that sweet Maria painted for me. I am looking for a frame to put it in but it is hard to find the right size. We are going on vacation next week so I am hoping to find one at Micheal’s. Enjoy your summer with your three darlings.
So sweet! She is such a great artist <3
I truly enjoy reading your blog. The littles including Maria are beyond adorable. As an aside, I noticed on Reece’s Rainbow that “Iris” has a committed family in Mo. (New Commitments section). However, it also indicated she only as $5.62 cents towards her adoption? How can it be when you advocated for her and many donated and her adoption fund was ~$16,000? Again, many thanks for sharing your life on this blog.
Don’t worry, if you look at Iris under the ‘my family found me’ section, you will see her full amount that will go to her family 🙂 That is the child’s fund, and the family gets a fresh new fund to help fund raise any remaining costs!
Thank you for the clarification. I continue to pray for Iris as she has such a sweet nature and was so good with Bella. Your Maria is a beautiful girl – she has such a sweet, sweet smile. Kindest regards.
“lij-ey-lou”
What a great nickname! I love it. I have a daughter named Delaney and her nickname, of course, is Laney-Lou.
Yeah, embrace the mess. They’ll be grown up before you know it.
Yes, too true!
