Team Iris Update!

When you grow up in an orphanage and no one chooses you year after year, and another birthdy passes, and another, all of a sudden you’re one of the oldest.  And when you are the oldest in a place with so many little ones, and so many little arms are reaching, just reaching up for someone and there is no one there, you reach back down.  When the caregivers are scarce, and children are abundant, often times it’s the ones who have been passed over for many years, the older ones who become the little caregivers with so much love and tenderness for the little ones.  You worry about the little ones, make sure they’re safe, play what all the little ones want to play, hug and care take.

This is our Maria, it’s in her bones, it’s who she is, she cares and she takes care, because for a long time, when all the little ones needed, she’s the one who would respond.  And it is Iris.

Maria and Iris, doing what they know.  Doing what they love, which is to care.

I recently got an email from a missionary who visited her, and a woman who loves Iris and wrote this about the day a family came to Iris’ orphanage to adopt a little girl that Iris loved and helped care for:

“I would see pictures of Iris and how she cared so much for the other children and in particular, Isabelle.  Isabelle was adopted in December and I saw a picture of Iris standing there watching Isabelle getting ready for her gotcha day.  Iris had a big smile on her face and I was in tears, thinking of her being left behind.”

Oh sweet Iris, smiling joyfully as she sees one of the little ones she loves being chosen, and taken out of there by a loving family.

Update on our search for 200 people to give $100….

10 people have!!!  What a gift!

She started out on Monday with $85 in her account, and now has over $1,000!!!!!

Oh sweet Iris, do you know you are loved?

A young missionary visited her orphanage recently and gave each of the kids a gift, Iris got a baby doll.  And just like Maria’s doll, Iris’s doll is treasured, loved and cherished with joy.  This girl is going to BLESS one lucky family.

Yay!  How exciting.  Please join us in helping Iris get a family before Christmas this year!

We don’t need 200 people to give $100, we need 190 people, please be one, we need you!  (We still haven’t even given our $100 yet, but we will soooooon!  This weekend is our weekend for crafting and sewing together.  I kind of can’t wait because sometime I put crafting stuff off even though it’s fun and bonding and teaches good skills, but what a perfect opportunity, sweet Iris!)

We will be fundraising and updating for sweet Iris all of February, and at the end of Feb, we will be choosing the recipients of the 3 books, and yes, you hope it’s you because it’s the best book!

Meanwhile, in the mean time, we are selling this super cute infinity scarf Maria is wearing.  We made it by hand using….scissors #socrafty.  We are selling it for $15 (All funds go to sweet Iris #TEAMIRIS!!)  It has super cute black bird cages on it.

This is us yesterday on our way to second grade poetry party.  I love this girl so much.  Finley cried when she left for school…

Thank you for those of you who have already given, can you even imagine how quickly it added up to $1,000??

YAY TEAM IRIS!!!

Also, did you ask your grandma if she would give $100 yet?  Our awesome friends just gave us their double jogging stroller, so I just listed our other double stroller on craigslist, #teamiris and #cleangarage!!  #stopthisisn’ttwitter

“I get the invitation every morning when I wake up to actually live a life of complete engagement, a life of whimsy, a life where love does.  It doesn’t come in an envelope.  It’s ushered in by a sunrise, the sound of a bird, or the smell of coffee drifting lazily from the kitchen.  It’s the invitation to actually live, to fully participate in this amazing life for one more day.”

We will be adding to her account soon too! My birthday is Saturday and I cannot think of a better present way to celebrate (I’m going to send out the link to family asking them to donate instead of giving me a gift). Just started reading “Love does”….sooo good!

Thank you, this is God’s story of redemption despite our fears, and it had changed our lives as well.

I am proud to be part of “Team Iris” – but only partly. The other half went to sweet little Zara (who looks like my 4-months old daughter). Hope you don’t mind.
    Regards, Bettina :o)
