The Waiting Child

The Waiting Child

by Debbie Bodie

Dedicated to Stella and Kate, two real little girls, who really watched us meet our children.

I saw you meet your child today
 You kissed your baby joyfully
and as you walked away with him
I played pretend you’d chosen me.

Stella watching us with Elijah from the hall

 I’m happy for the baby,
yet inside I’m aching miserably
I want to plead as you go by,
 “Does no-one want a child of three?”
“Mama?  Papa?”
* * *

I saw you meet your child today.
 In love with her before you met
And as I watched you take her out
I knew it wasn’t my turn yet
Kate, age 11
* * *
 I recognize you from last year!
I knew I’d seen your face before!
But you came for a second babe.
Does no-one want a child of four?
Stella, age 4
* * *

 I saw you meet your child today But this time there was something new
 A nurse came in and took MY hand And then she gave my hand to you.
Can this be true? I’m almost eight!

Staring in silence at Maria’s gifts

And there are infants here, you see? But then you kissed me and I knew The child you picked this time was me.

 Dedicated to two little girls, Stella and Kate, who long for a mama and papa of their own.  These two would watch us with our children, Kate would grow shy, and Stella clung to our legs.
I know there must be a family out there who would love to love two sweet little girls.
Andrew and I would be your biggest advocates, and maybe a bit jealous that you get to begin an
incredible journey to our favorite city in the world.
Please, pray for these two sweethearts, one doesn’t have much time, the other the perfect age.
If you can’t adopt them just yet, would you consider donating to their account?  They both have a good start, enough to cover a lot of a homestudy, but let’s get these girls covered, take care of them and their futures from a far.  There is no amount too small.  please

    I have been advocating for Stella for weeks now. Something about her just breaks my heart. If we weren’t in the middle of our adoption right now I would love to be her Mama. I am searching far and wide for a Mama and Daddy for her. If I find someone I will have them contact you to hear about her.

    Hi Amy can you give me your e-mail address? Or can you e-mail me at mjpost32@gmail.com. My friend and I would like to help with the orphanage your sweet daughter is from. We were inspired by your posts. I have two adopted daughters from China but don’t know much about Eastern Europe and how we can help with the children left behind. Thank you.

    I am Stella’s prayer warrior. I so so wish I could be her Mommy. I have been praying for her for so many months now. What a beautiful post…. what beautiful girls.

    I found your blog last night through RR, and have been reading it all day. Thank you for sharing your journey!

    Did Stella find a family? Her link no longer works…
