Our Sunshine Girl

I woke up tired this morning.  Soar throat.

When we got to the orphanage, some of the kids were upset.  They just didn’t know how to handle it anymore.  A button nose brown hair girl in Maria’s groupa sobbed.

And sobbed.

“MAMA!!!!  MAMA!!!”

And rocked herself.  Back and forth, back and forth.

The boys needed hugs.  “Papa?  Mama?”

Another friend with crossed eyes sat next to the sobbing girl and started rocking herself too.  Back and forth, back and forth.

Push through, Amy.  Push through.

Do it.

Then we saw her.

Our sunshine girl met us, and hugged us.  I could still hear the sobbing, but I pulled out a present for Maria.

“I have a present for Mama and Papa,” she said.  Inside was a card and picture she drew for brotski, her little brother Finley and a tiny, rubber toy snake.  She pulled out a pink, glittery necklace she had made for me all by herself.  It was beautiful, and I am still wearing it.  Next, she pulled out a letter she wrote on her Hello Kitty stationary.

“Dear Mama, Papa, Brother, Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie, Uncle and cousins,

I love you very much and I am happy I am in your family.  I can’t wait to come home and live with you.  I can’t wait to go on walks with my family and play with my brother.

Love,
Maria”

Here we are, planning on adopting this child sacrificially, all for her, not for us, and here she is blessing our socks off on a morning mama needed it.  Oh God, why are your blessings so rich?  How do you know our hearts so completely?

She drew us a picture.

The other kids were outside, happily playing.  Andrew and his girl played patty cake games, and he had download apps on his phone just for her.

He is officially putty in her hands, at times I think I see his heart exploding for her.

I walked around the orphanage and took some pictures, still catching my breath.

Her two pairs of shoes.

Let’s go outside I said.  We were so glad we did.  We had such a fun time, we love those kids so, so much.

Oh be still my heart!!!!!  This little one is 10 years old!

Maria was being so sweet with her rubbing her back and wrapping her arm around her to show her love.

“Papa!  Papa!  This way!”

These two have formed such a special bond.

This is the one who was sobbing when we arrived.  She was feeling a bit better.

Andrew played badminton with Maria, and she just loved it.  She was soaking up her time with him.

“How cool is it we get to be young parents to her when she’s ten, so we can play with her all the time!  It was SO much fun!” -Andrew.  Yep, I love him.

ADAMANT that I get a photo of him with his tattoo…  Sweetie pie.

Andrew and I just adore this little boy.  He is kind, and polite, and hard working and just fun to be around.  We pray that a family finds him, he is a gem stone.

We love her too.  So good and sweet.  Genuinely good natured, and beautifully stunning.
“Take my picture?”
“Um, only if you SMILE!”  “OH!  OK!”
This darling girl is so sweet.  One hand only formed 2 fingers, which is probably why she was given up.
Maria took this photo of us

Amy and Dasha

We weren’t able to go into the city with Maria like we thought, and I am so glad we didn’t.  We had an amazing morning spending time with all the kids, and showing them love.  If we would have left after hearing them in the morning, I would have just been heart broken the whole time, but God knew.

Sweet baby girls who have our heart forever.

Is this child not just stunning?  I wish we had a 100 bedroom house.
“You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing.

You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy,

that I might sing praises to you and not be silent.

O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!”

Psalm 30:11-12
Once we said our goodbyes, we headed over to the Golden Horn Bay.  It was amazing, and the highest point in the city.  There were two couples getting married and taking pictures here.  The brides were ALL done up Russian style!

Tomorrow is our last visit with Maria.  If you think of it, pray for our hearts and hers.

I’m late in following your blog, but I wanted to know when does Maria get to come home with you? I assume at the end of the visit, but I’m not very worldly when it comes to overseas adoption.

Such wonderful happy smiley faces….I could take them all.

You know tomorrow will be tough – but you also know that you are on the last stretch and it will not be long before your baby girl is home with you, and that will be such a wonderful thing.

My youngest son has a theory that I have blogged about before – We have to go through the tough things in life, so that we can truly appreciate the good things around us!…You and Andrew, Fin and Maria will endure through the hardship of being apart for this last time, but at the end of it all the most wonderful life as a complete family awaits you, and that it something you will appreciate and cherish for the rest of your lives!

My heart will be with you

    Lou 🙂

Such precious children….I am so glad you were able to spend time with them and show them love!
DO you know if the little brunette who was sobbing is available for adoption? DO you know if there is a chance even that she could be hosted? My heart aches for her! I want to do something!

I absolutely love your story. It is so inspiring and what a sweet angel you are getting. Seems like you are blessed all around. We adopted my son when he was almost 9, that was almost 6 years ago, and it has been quite a journey. May the Lord bless and guide you as you make your journey with your two little blessings.
