Maya’s Guardian Angel

Must you adopt in order to change the life of an orphan?  Must your be rich and donate bushels of money to save the life of a forgotten child, living an existence without a family?

The answer is a definite and resounding; NO!

Maya has a guardian angel who is a young college student named Chelsea.  Chelsea saw Maya and felt a calling.

But what could she do?  She couldn’t adopt and didn’t have a whole lot of money to donate to have a family bring her home, she is in college after all.  She took the first step she could and became her prayer warrior.

What else did she do?

A little girl lived oceans away, living without a family, her future grim.  But her prayer warrior didn’t think empathy was enough.  She moved to action.

She had little blue bracelets made and sold them on-line and at her school.  She donated her proceeds to Maya’s account.

And she prayed.

She collected coins

And she prayed.

She interviewed a penguin about Maya and had him spread the word that all donations to Maya are tax deductible.  It was beyond precious.

She made bookmarks and sold them.  What a sweet use of her time!  Maya had no idea what kind, yet simple acts of service were being poured our for her namesake.

And she prayed.

There were moments in Andrew and my pursuit of Maya where there were true life impenetrable walls blocking us from adopting Maya.  We prayed, but we also felt and saw other, powerful prayers at a time when no one else knew of our adoption pursuit.  We told each other aloud at times that we knew someone must be praying for Maya.  Big time.

And now we know who she is.  Chelsea.

On one blog post she wrote this, sentiments we could definitely identify with.

Written by Chelsea:

“Yes, I’m afraid I’ve grown quite predictable in the past few weeks, but I’m predictable for a very good cause.  I mentioned in a previous post how difficult it is to love someone you’ve never met.  You can’t find affection for a little girl you’ve never spoken to or played games with.  It’s far, far, more difficult to love someone who’s never gotten on your nerves than it is to love someone who’s tossed your toys out of a window.  While it is difficult, though, it’s far from impossible.  Perhaps God has called you to rescue Maya or a child like her through adoption.  Even if you’re not in a position to adopt right now, you can still show love and compassion to children like Maya by donating even five or ten dollars to their cause, and as always, you can pray for Maya and the family that God plans for her to have.  Whatever you do, if you do what God calls you to do, He will absolutely use your actions as part of a wonderful plan.

Can you imagine?  This precious child spoke her first words and walked her first steps a long time ago without parents to praise her for her effort.  She’s gone through nine whole years of milestones with nobody to celebrate with her.  Hopefully, God will use us to change her life, and maybe she’ll soon have a Mama to appreciate all of the wonderful things that she does.  Please, please, please consider donating even a small amount of money to Maya’s adoption grant.  Every last donation could make a huge difference in her life.  Of course, if you can’t donate anything right now, prayers are always appreciated.

“[Jesus asked] ‘Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?’  And he said, ‘The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do the same.'”
Luke 10:36-37 “

Every last donation did make a huge difference in Maya’s life.  And God did use her to change her life, just as she hoped.

Our sweet Maya girl has a mama and papa waiting for her, and working their butts off to bring her home, but she also has a special guardian angel named Chelsea who loves her too and helped bring her home.

So be inspired.

Chelsea could have given up and been talked herself out of doing anything.

You can make a difference.  Not everyone can adopt, but everyone can make a difference in the life of an orphan.

Obviously.
