Finley’s Baby Dedication

We recently had Finley dedicated at our church.  Is that the same as a baptism, you ask?  Yes and no.  Andrew and I believe baptism should be an individual and conscious choice to reflect a decision you have make to become a follower of Jesus, to be renewed by Him, and since Finley’s one, we know he can’t quit make that decision 😉

At a dedication, it’s more for us and our church to together say that as a body of believers, as a community of people who love Jesus, that we commit to Finley.  That Andrew and I together will make Jesus known to our little one and to live a life together as a family that Jesus is the center of; a life of love.  A life of putting each other above ourselves, even when we don’t quite feel like it.  To help others as a way of life.  To desire the Wisdom of God, to apply to to our daily lives and to not get swept away with the silliness that the world tells us is crucial.  A time for all our sweet friends and family who came, and for the people in our church who we don’t even know to say together that they will support us in this, as we support Finley.

It was a sweet night.  It felt like a wedding.  “Do you Amy and Andrew promise to….”

“Yes we do.”

“Do you church promise to support the Brockhaus family in…”

“Yes we do!”

This is the verse we chose for Finley that night to be read as our Family life verse:

Philippians 1:9-11
“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus–the the glory and praise of God.”

Here are some photos of before, and during.

“I LOVE THE BIBLE!”

“I LOVE PRAYING!  IT’S SO FUN!”

Thank you to all our sweet friends who came!  I wish I had gotten pictures of all of you!  Thank you to our friends the Hudsons, the James, the Freemans, the Hovis the Stubstads, the Grabells, and the Heltons who made a special trip Sunday night to support our family and our boy!  We love you all!

Yay!! We have a baby dedication service at the beginning of each year at my church. We recognize all the babies born in the last year and their families. It’s SO neat!
