How to Make Triangle Bunting

A Triangle Banner Tutorial

Oh my gosh, it’s so easy.  It is SO easy to make, and to hang and to store.  I string this baby up anytime I have an event now, and it makes my house instantly more festive!  Then I roll it up (read, wad it in a ball) and store it.  Hey, it’s supposed to be chabby-chic, right?

1.  Buy some fabric.  I wanted to a looooongish banner, I picked out a few different, random fabrics I liked and bought about a half a yard of each.  I think I could have bought less, but I can always use it for something else.

You can get real crazy when you buy your fabric.  Nothing has to match.  Dig around the 80% off bin while you’re at it.

2.  Next, make your triangle template.  A piece of paper works, or a piece of a paper grocery bag.  I use a ruler and make sure the edges are straight and that it’s an isosceles triangle.  Oh jeez, click here to remember what that means.  I like my two equal sides to be longer than the other side.

3.  Pin your template on a double folded piece of cloth and cut.  Double folded meaning when you cut, you are cutting out 2 triangles.

4.  Line up all of your matching 2 triangle pieces, ready to sew!

5.  Sew the two long and equal sides of your triangles together.  You can leave the top open.  Be sure the good side of the fabric is facing our for both pieces of fabric. I like using a zig-zag stitch cause it’s kinda cute 🙂

 6.  Then line up your triangle on the floor in the order you want them.

 7.  Get the ribbon or string you will use to string the banner.  I happened to have a big spool of pink ribbon from my wedding (I know, so crazy).  Measure the distance you want each triangle to be from each other and pin the ribbon to the triangle at each correct distance.  I picked 4 inches for this one.

8.  Once they are all pinned to the ribbon, start sewing all across until your banner is done! Be sure to leave ribbon on each end in order to tie it up as decor.

Homemade triangle bunting

And voila!  Use your beautiful fabric bunting for baby showers, bridal showers, going away parties, birthday parties, or national grandma’s day!

You’re WELCOME!
