Beach Party!

I love the fourth of July, I think it may just be my favorite holiday.  I know I recently said the same about Easter, but I think this summer just swayed me to change my mind, as it does every July.  Yesterday our friend from growth group turned thirty, and what better way to celebrate than roasting juicy hotdogs on the fire, with only a hint of sand tucked into each bun.

The kids had fun digging flimsy, plastic shovel blades into the sand, while the tinies dug eager toes into the wet water’s edge.  It was a fun day of relaxing, eating and talking.

catchin’ sand-crabs with my toes…

Oh don’t worry little boy, one day you will be able to run and kick in the foamy waves too.

The water was a perfect temperature, the sand formed small pools of water in our footsteps left behind as we walked.

Our little ham, loving every bit of attention he can manage.  As the night went on, he reverted to “singing” in order to collect the ooos and ahhhhs he wanted.

I love our small group for many reasons, including the basics; love, support, spurring each other on towards love and good deeds, etc etc.  But recently, I have been so thankful for the vocabulary rich environment it provides for The Tiny.  Silly, I know, but when I really think about the amount of time we all spend together, sharing our lives and how The Tiny sits right in the middle of it all, I know it can only help to grow his budding mind, feeding his tiny vocabulary.  I think God knows what he’s doing when he asks us to be in community.  Beats TV, I suppose.

At the end of the night, we brushed off the sand (for the most part, but I am resigned to the fact that it will permanently line the corners of our lives through the summer), put on some jammies, and said goodnight to our little beach bum.

Now, we are gearing up for the big holiday tomorrow.  We decided this morning that we would have a 4th of July BBQ and pool party.  We’ll watch Legoland’s fireworks from the jacuzzi.  A little tidbit about our family–we are last minute–and we love it!  The hubby just got home with hotdogs, beer, ice and joe joe cookies!

Have a special holiday!
