“I wish that could just be a book…”

While driving, “Oh boys, I need to tell you something sad.”

“What mama?”

“You know our neighbor?  He is in the hospital, and he is not doing well…”  He is very old, and we don’t see him come out very often.  Maybe a rough, ‘Hello’ over his shoulder when we call to him first.

Finley, looking at his hands, and in a small, sad voice, “Mama…I wish that could just be in a book.”

His eyes catch mine from the back seat before returning to his hands, and very softly,

“I wish that could just be in a book because if it’s real, I think I might cry.”

Sweet Finley, there are many things I wish could just be in a book, too 🙁

I love his sensitive heart for others. All your kids have this trait – you are doing a great job.

That is so sweet! Love his tender heart & such a perfect expression of his feelings. So many things that I wish could just be in a book too. Those moments are tough but what good little people you are raising. Prayers for your neighbor. I hope the best for him.
