Teacher Appreciation Day?

Have you ever started off you day just killing it?  I am not generally an ‘early riser’ meaning, not before the kids, or 7am but today, 5:40 I woke up and I prayed, “God, get me up!  Help me proverbs 31 woman this day!”  So, I sat in bed for a little while, got hubby up, “Honey, do you want to work out, do yoga, do you want me to cut your hair?”  He always wants me to cut his hair.

I cracked 6 eggs and started cooking them, got Maria up early, started laundry, picked kale for our green smoothies–ALL before the boys got up.  I was on fire… Got the boiled water for our lemon tea going.  Elijah joined us with a poopy diaper, which is rare meaning we don’t have the same stamina for it, “Honey, do you want to make the bed and clean our room, or change the diaper?”  I was showering the little boy a minute later while Andrew vacuumed our room.  This is still all before 7am when I am usually sleeping.  I started putting away a pile of the boy’s laundry, served up eggs and smoothies, cut up fresh pineapple.

“It’s teacher appreciation day!” I remembered.  “Flower day!”  Maria and I headed outside with baskets cutting fresh flowers, and I arranged two bouquets in mason jars.  I cut Andrew’s hair, but now we had to speed up, ok, got to get into ‘get to school’ mode.  Finley and I drafted up a card for the teacher he loves, and wanted to draw her picture.

“Ok honey, now get in the car!”

“WAIT!  SHE NEEDS EYE HAIRS!!!”

He started putting eye lashes on her eye brows, resembling a wooly mammoth.

“Ok,” I breathed, “What’s 5 minutes late.  Maria had time to practice her piano already and was reading a book, “Makenna Gets the Gold!” what a show off Makenna is.  I put Elijah in the car, and tried to secure the flower arrangements.  We left late, and started driving.

But everything was fine, we got a lot done, and had everything we needed for teacher appreciation day.  Just yes.

We walked in, no one else had presents.

Today was not teacher appreciation day.

As an elementary school teacher I can tell you that I’d be delighted for ANY day to be teacher appreciation day. You just got the ball rolling. ;>

I really did laugh out loud. I agree with Kate. Their teachers will be delighted for your family’s sweet expression of appreciation. Can just imagine the other children telling their moms that they want to bring flowers and cards for their teacher, too. =) Yes, you did this JUST right!
