Maria’s Service Project

Last night, Maria had an exciting night, we all did.  She went to her first service project.

She got to hold babies for homeless families who get life training with her friends. She was beside herself, looking forward to it all week. Us too, I couldn’t wait to hear about it, to see how awesome and empowered she would feel, and BE. We prayed with her before she left and Finley said, “Maria, you look beautiful!”and it’s true, inside and out.

Adoption Empowers.

World Changer

She came back glowing with a slushy in her hand from a car full of kind friends, “So many babies!!” she told us, she was on a joy high, knowing she was really helping, making a difference, filled to the brim.

Our sweet friends go often, and Marla said this about Maria:

‘Yayayay!!! woo hoo….Maria is such a total and complete blessing…such a servant. she was holding and helping with babies from 6:30-8 non stop!!! so many babies…she is such a natural care-giver and knew just how to tend them. I told her she was so gifted with the babies…and she is so confident with them. I just felt so happy to serve alongside her tonight and so thankful for everyone who helped bring Maria home and into my world. I am blessed to know this sweet love muffin!!!’

(Marla and Chris used to be Andrew’s youth Pastors, they are amazing and live a life of service.  We are thankful to them and the ecouragement they gave us while adopting, and for inviting her along with them)

We saw our daughter empowered last night, filled with joy.  The world tells us in order to be great, we must be served, get and demand what we deserve, but God tells us the opposite.  To be great, serve.  Put others above yourself, be second by choice.

To come from a place of being in so much need, to being in a place and choosing to empower others, to serve is the beauty of what God can do.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring her here.  The day we got her from the orphanage, they told us all the things she can’t and won’t be able to do, “I guess they don’t know what God can do,” we said.

To care for the needs of all who mourn in Zion,
give them bouquets of roses instead of ashes,
Messages of joy instead of news of doom,
a praising heart instead of a languid spirit.

Rename them “Oaks of Righteousness”
planted by God to display his glory.
They’ll rebuild the old ruins,
raise a new city out of the wreckage.

They’ll start over on the ruined cities,
take the rubble left behind and make it new.
You’ll hire outsiders to herd your flocks
and foreigners to work your fields,

But you’ll have the title “Priests of God,”
honored as ministers of our God.
You’ll feast on the bounty of nations,
you’ll bask in their glory.

Because you got a double dose of trouble
and more than your share of contempt,
Your inheritance in the land will be doubled
and your joy go on forever.

Isaiah 61:2-3
