Maria’s First Piano Recital

Maria has been taking piano lessons for 3 months now, and today was the day of her first recital.

She and the other students arrived at a local church, dressed in their nicest clothes.  She has been practicing her three songs daily, knew them by heart.  Since she has been taking lessons for the shortest amount of time, she went first.

With everyone seated, she approached the front, the piano sitting in the center and turned to face the crowd, and quietly,

“Hi, my name is Maria and I am going to play Old MacDonald, Express Train and Taking Flight…” in a soft, but confident, sweet voice.

Everyone clapped before she even played.

Then, note by note, she put all of her hard work, her diligent practice to work.

She played each song, just right.

How cool are all these piano students?  Such a variety of ages and abilities, Andrew, Patty and I were so inspired hearing each of them play.  Besides the obvious physical, familial and spiritual sides of life, I think one of the best gifts you can give a child is allowing them to play music in a setting that is enjoyable and fun and empowering, which is what our teacher provides.

We heard songs from all over the world, from many ages of history, and it was incredible.

We are proud of you Maria girl!  You have come so far, and you shine!
She even got new shoes from Auntie Mary and Uncle Steve for her big day!

Go Maria! I am a classical pianist and former piano teacher, and that book she has is one I used often. 🙂 Playing the piano is one of the best decisions she will ever make! I love it!

I remember taking piano lessons as a child. Even though I stopped, I still think it is a valuable skill. I also think knowing music helped me in different areas throughout school. I love that picture with the stained glass window.

YES! We see it too. It takes focus, concentration, math skills, it has been very empowering and supportive to her growth!

That smile while she’s at the piano is priceless!

Your darn blog makes my eyes welly. Every. Single. Time. 🙂

Maria is just radiant – and how tall she is standing with the two of you there…what a difference having people who are there for her and encourage her and love her no matter what has made even in physically.

Love what God is doing in and through your family!

Thank you, friend! I hope you are doing well, healing!

She has grown another 2 inches since April, I think she may end up taller than I!

I have to agree, she inspires me daily. God knew what he was doing when he told us to adopt her, (Even though I told him he was cray 😉
