Eggs…

“Oh  my gosh, Maria, come here quick….”  I yell-whispered when I saw the tiny thing nestled in a tuft of dirt.

“What is it, mama?” she came, breathless at the tone of my voice, what could it be?

“Maria!!! LOOK!”

and she spied the brown orb as well, “Oh my gosh…”

And we hugged and jumped, like, real life did that.  Well, it’s been 5 months with these chickies, and we had still been buying eggs, so to see this was very exciting.  They did it!

Maria scooped up the egg, and we kneeled low to show the boys, who oo’d and ahh’d over our tiny, little egg.

The first eggs that chickens lay are usually very, very small, as the chickens begin to lay normal sized eggs as time goes on.

The first egg, a very exciting time for our family.

Good job girls, or girl.  Just two are laying at this point, but we are still so proud of them

Finley’s new jeans I scored at a garage sale for 50 cents, I think they are some fancy girl brand, but that’s ok. 🙂

To thank the chickens, Elijah wanted to share his juice, they were actually kind of interested
All the kids love to help papa.  Papa works hard at our house, and his gifts and abilities rub off on the kids without him even trying.  He picked up new soil in the truck, and with each shovel Andrew loaded, Finley loaded his shovel full right behind.

We loaded the soil into the garden bed and planted rows of green beans, bell pepper, watermelon and….Giant pumpkins.  My kids just love watermelon, and eagerly watch the tiny seedlings, imagining what’s to come.

The kids have been loving watering, and watching the tender green seedlings uncurl from under the dirt, lifing their leaves up and out to catch the sun.

You all must be someplace with no winter. California? Here, the pumpkins were planted months ago and are being harvested now.

Love reading your blog and seeing your wonderful pictures. Congrats to the hens.

haha, yes it’s true. We have very warm summers, it’s hot now, but we are entering a cooler season which will be nice for planting. But also, we are novices, so who knows! <3
