20 days

Is all that separates us!  I feel like I am so dang good at countdowns, because we are pretty optimistic people–so by the time the week has already started, I pretty much count it mostly done.  We are into our second week of waiting, meaning we are almost half done, catch my drift?  😉

I don’t spend my days  picturing them where they are, when I do think about them, I turn my thought into a prayer, and just get excited we’ve made it this far!  Most days I can’t believe we went, passed court, and came back already!  How are we seriously in our final wait?  HURRAY!!

Oh man, there is so much jumbling around in my heart, so many different cool, amazing things God has and is showing us.  But I just wanted to wait and share something with people who are already in the process of adoption.

I just wanted to tell you that our decision about opening up our homestudy to two children came about 2 week before we left for Russia the first time, and Andrew was mostly against it.  We had to do a little extra paper work, but he said he would do it just for me, and just because, but just so I knew, no other child would be joining our family.  (He’s the practical one 😉

I just want to encourage you, if you are in the process of adoption, to have your study  opened to one more, even though you seriously can’t even afford the first one, even though you literally have no extra room in your house, and even though you are already taking on more than you think and know you can handle.

The reason I am saying this is because anyone can still say no, but when you cross over the ocean, things are made very, very clear to you quickly.

The first time you walk into an orphanage like that, many things become very clear, right away.  You realize that you actually come from the wealthiest nation, not only right now, but in all of history, even though you forgot because we are constantly inundated with media and commericals telling us that what we have is sorely lacking and never quite enough.  We are always made to feel like we need more, despite how much we truly have, in fact, most of us have too much!  And when you are staring into a room full of cribs, on a floor full of rooms, filled to the brim with babies  and children who are literally begging you to take them, arms up to you, hanging on your every word, content just to be near you, the truth comes out, and you realize–how much you truly have.  And you also realize that all that stuff you have, isn’t even anything these children need, but it’s just you, and you are there, and you can do it.  It might take a few days to settle in, but it might be immediate, either way it’s pretty inescapapble.

Anyways, it’s hard to put into words what you will soon be experiencing, and you will be there soon, but it’s best to have your options open, because you would be shocked at the amount of incredible little souls who wait, and wait, and would just love to love you.   Plus, the most expensive part of adoption is the traveling, so if you are already going to be making the trips anyways…   😉

You can still always say no, but once you’re over there, you can’t always say yes.

Plus, some of the cutest things come in small packages

Gosh, 20 more days in a crib is too much to bear, let alone if we hadn’t done that extra piece of paper and it was years and years for this precious little one!

You are an inspiration to us – We first were going to pursue adopting Tim only and then I knew I could not do that since I already knew that Tim and Ana knew each other and I had already seen her beautiful picture too. Deciding to go for two instead of one was the easier part of the decision.
Longing to go To Region 26…. This is a strange time knowing so many friends of ours are now praying and financing Tim and Ana to come home to VA but they have no idea. Gods love is so amazing.

This was remarkable timing. We just had our second hs visit yesterday and had absolutely no intention of adding a 2nd, but we did end up doing it, and I feel good about that decision. Thank you for sharing this. <3

Can you even imagine your journey without Elijah being in it?! Your family is so awesome – all five of you!

I keep rereading this post; you truly have a gift with words, Amy! That paragraph in the middle, where you describe what it is really like in the orphanages and how we in the west have it very good in comparison has really touched me – I have book marked it so I can read it again.
I live in the UK, and we are going through the same recession as the US, but we are still *very* comfortable compared to some. Just this morning there was another story on the news about how much money people think they need to have to be happy (4 times the average salary here, if you were interested). But I just read your post again, gave my little boy a hug, and gave thanks for the roof over our heads, food in our tummies and the warm home we have. Thank you for all you have done, and allowing us a glimpse into your adoption journey!
    Katherine
