Donations for the Kids

We’re going back soon, and for a shorter amount of days so we’ll have maybe even a bit more room!

A list of needs for the orphanage:

1. FAMILIES!!!!!  🙂  Think about it, seriously!  Best thing ever 🙂

2.  They really need thick tights!  The girls and boys both wear them all the time, and they look pretty tattered.  Not the thin American type, but thick, wooly kind.  I don’t even know where to find those, especially this time of year, so if you do, that’s amazing!!

3.  Tennis shoes!!  This is serious need!  We don’t have a whole lot of room in our suitcase, so it would be best to buy one or two really nice pair that will last and last, than a bunch of cheaper ones.  Poor babes walk around in old uncomfortable dress shoes, or even sandals with socks.  🙁

4.  Underwear and socks.

5.  Sweaters and jackets.

6.  Any sort of education enrichment.  If you can find picture books in Russian, that would be HUGE!  They had a whole set up newish colored pencils with no tips because they didn’t have a pencil sharpeners, so Andrew and I are bringing an electric one.  Any sort of drawing, or art, or crayons or anything.  Even though these kids are “older” they just thrive off of little kid stuff, they LOVE it.

7.  Hygiene items, especially for teeth.  We saw a lot of cavities in poor little mouths.  No mamas to make sure they’re brushing 🙁

8.  Fun outdoor toys like jump ropes!  All the kids love jump roping.  (I wish ten year olds out here liked stuff like that, you know?)

9.  And anything else you think might be GREAT!  Our facilitators had never visited this orphanage before, people don’t usually adopt from here (missing out!), so their supplies are low.

**We could also bring a cash donation and buy supplies while out there too if we run out of room, or if you don’t want to shop for stuff!  If you give money, I will take a picture of everything your donation bought and send it to you!!  You can also tell me what kind of things you’d want me to buy in your name!

Donations can be sent here:
PO Box 731
Vista CA 92085

We won’t go back for a least 2 months (but we’re praying less!!!! Join us) so you got a little time.

LOVE,
A&A&M&F&E

I’m stationed in the Peace Corps.. in a Russian speaking country. I may be able to find some Russian picture books for children. But where should we send donations too?

    • The Tiny Team June 25, 2012, 3:18 am

THAT’S AMAZING! I’ll send you the address! Hurray, thank you!

Have some books from Russian language camp and some that my friends and I purchased that I’ll be sending on Monday– I hope they get there in time for the trip!!!!

Amy, you and Andrew are such amazing and faithful people. I have been so excited and emotional and prayerful for your family in the past few weeks. I would have never thought I could feel such intense joy for strangers 🙂 and I LOVE it! My husband and I have been following your adoption journey on the edge of our seats with anticipation for you. Thanks for letting us be a part of this. We would like to mail you a box of things for the children at the orphanage, if you could e-mail me at kymmers5@gmail dot com. I hope to hear from you soon 🙂

    • The Tiny Team June 25, 2012, 3:19 am

Oh thank you Kym! We so appreciate you guys! I’ll email you!

  • Ann June 23, 2012, 1:52 pm

Is there an address where we can send things? A PO Box or similar? I can’t send much, but I can certainly send something!

I also noticed that the American Wal Mart website offers free shipping of online products to local stores in the States, and 97-cent shipping to your home, which would be a lot cheaper than if I were to buy something and post it to the States myself. If there’s an option there, that would be great.

Is the electric pencil sharpener something you are just taking for the trip, or leaving as a gift? I ask because I have a favourite heavy-duty manual sharpener we use in the classroom and I’d love to buy one to contribute, but if you’re leaving one, I won’t bother (I only wondered if you’d leave it because of North American vs. European outlet compatibility).

    Let me know!

    • The Tiny Team June 25, 2012, 3:22 am

Hi Ann! Yes, we have a sharpener, but I just realized now that it’s for an American outlet….hmmmm…. I love your idea of that good sharpener though, it’s probably better than the one we were going to bring. Do they make it for other outlets?

Let me know what you think!

      xo

    • Ann June 27, 2012, 12:26 am

The one I had in mind is a manual sharpener, so it doesn’t require plugging in at all. It can be bolted to a table or wall, and the sharpening is all done by turning the crank.

Our classrooms have electric sharpeners too, but we find they overheat and shut down very fast with so many kids lining up to use them. Leads to lots of lineups with kids having pencil-sword wars while they wait . . . so really, my war wounds may have prejudiced me 😉

That said, I went to order it but they say they can’t ship it to a PO Box and would send it to the local store for pickup. It’s a store in Vista on University Dr and they would send you an e-mail when it arrives. Would that be too much hassle? The socks and underwear I also ordered would go right to the PO Box but I guess there’s a size issue of some kind with the sharpener. If that would be too much trouble, collecting it, let me know and I can just send the clothing items.

That is AMAZING! Thank you so much Ann! We are so blessed by you, and think about how the kids will feel! Pick up is an HONOR! We are so, so blessed that you would be so kind, generous and creative.

      We love you!

      Amy

This is a privilege for me, honestly! Also a way to keep from going mad while I wait, so a selfish privilege to boot 😉

Not sure of the PO Box arrival date but the sharpener should arrive in store between July 6 and 11th. I put you and Andrew as primary/alternate pickup people, so either or both of you should be able to collect it no problem. The e-mail will come to your account here when it’s ready.

If you want to give them an electric pencil sharpener, it would be best to buy one there so you don’t have to worry about buying them an adapter as well. That being said, electronics are usually more expensive in Russia.

A cash donation and shopping in-region is great. You’ll be able to get books and games with Russian instructions. (Books and games are not expensive.) We have some games we could send, but they’d be hard to pack. And, you could buy fruit. That’s always a need!

Where can we send you things?

    • The Tiny Team June 25, 2012, 3:23 am

Thank you Kate! I’ll email you the address! I also have this crazy idea of buying a rocking chair in country for the baby house, what do you think of that??

  • Cindy June 24, 2012, 1:57 am

I, too, would like to know where to send stuff for the children. I can get books in Russian and maybe also some art supplies. Flat stuff that you can put in a suitcase!

  • Lou June 25, 2012, 3:03 am

I could have sworn I commented here yesterday, but it seems to have vanished..

I am heading back to the UK for 2 weeks from the 9th to 25th July. I will easily be able to get you thick woolly tights from their as they are a staple item with the weather being so dire.

If you can email me and let me know the age range I need to get them for that would be a huge help and then I can arrange to mail them to you when i get back to LA on the 25th July.

    Lou 🙂

Great! Wow, that’s pretty amazing Lou! What perfect timing, and what a beautiful heart you have!

We have been following your adoption journey from the beginning. You have made us laugh, cry and try new recipes (we LOVED the spag. squash). We are clear on the other side of the country so it’s been cool to see the west coast, and lemon trees, and stuff like that we don’t have in good ol’ PA. I have loved following your blog. Your Finley looks so much like my oldest son, when he was little, it is uncanny. I have loved looking at his pictures his expressions and bed head, and remembering when my now 13 yo was that little. they grow up so fast! And your daughter looks very much like my 10 yo daughter. We had been praying for her on RR since she looks so much like Anika (ah ni ka) and we were so drawn to her. And now little Elijah (he doesn’t look like any of my kids but if my youngest had been a boy that would have been her name :)), what an awesome and terrifically good looking family you are! Beautiful example of hearts following Christ. we have been praying for another little girl from that orphanage and saw her in one of your photos, and we were also wondering if you could tell us how we could get info on some of the older children. Thank you for being who you are…you guys totally rock! ksseitz@gmail.com

Thank you Kimberly for your joyful spirit and kind words! They mean so much to us! I will defininetly send you an email! 🙂

      Love,
      Amy

  • Emily June 26, 2012, 6:58 am

I found your Blog through a close friend who is also adopting through RR. It has brought me to my knees and broke my heart in a way I didn’t know was possible. I plan on sending donations for your next trip, and have been praying for you every day since I came across your blog. My husband and I have always talked about adopting, and my friend has exposed me to this world of children desperately seeking homes that I never knew existed. God bless you and your husband and your amazing hearts. Your passion is an inspiration, thank you for sharing it!

    • The Tiny Team June 27, 2012, 2:12 am

Oh thank you for your prayers Emily. We sure do appreciate them, and we feel them. We love your open hearts for children in need, there are such amazing little souls waiting and waiting!

      Love,
      Amy

I have folders that come with markers to color them in
This is the general idea: http://www.amazon.com/Geo-Butterfly-Velvet-Coloring-Poster/dp/B004TTHLWI/ref=pd_sim_sbs_t_6

I have about 10 I think… they each come with a set of markers. Please let me know if you would like them and I can ship them to you.

    • The Tiny Team June 27, 2012, 2:18 am

Oh those are so cool and look so fun! I love them! I love these things that I would never think of on my own!
