Chubby Fingers and Finger Food.

Yep, finger foods.  It’s true.

I am enjoying it, with bated breath.  When I give him tiny chunks of soft food, I am so happy to see his chubby fingers enclose themselves around the morsel and try to aim towards his gaping mouth.  But I then get a little glimpse of the sole pair of tiny teeth guarding his mouth.  “How are those two teeth supposed to do all the chewing involved with eating!?” I find myself thinking.

I guess it’s a growing experience for both of us.

I read somewhere that kids who are allowed to get really messy and “play” with their food when their kids are very young, end up being better eaters.  So let’s just say the boy’s a mess by the time he’s done.  We try our hardest to make dinners a family event and we eat at the same time he does.  We still give him some purees, but also share some of the food from our plates.

Here he’s eating quinoa, trout, tofu, avocado and black beans.  He loved it.  I am slowing getting over the whole, “every bite needs to be organic phase,” which is kind of nice for me.

He used to get very frustrated and couldn’t quite get the bites in his mouth, but he’s getting better each day.  What a champ, I’m proud of our little guy!

OOO look at him! How does he like the tofu?? Our cousins are vegan and have been feeding their 18 month old a lot of fresh vegatables which she loves but she sort of turns off the tofu when they’ve tried giving it to her.

Hmmm trout. I need to try that one. I love finger food stage too. I usually give my baby a mixture of fruit puree mixed with baby oatmeal and coconut milk. Lunch and snack is her finger food time with banana, breads, etc. and at night her dinner consists of her veggies, meats, cheeses which is still spoon fed, but it’s really chunky. So fun! I love to hear other baby food making momma stories.
