Can I share something with you?

For a couple years now, Andrew and I have been supporting the ministry of Reeces Rainbow.  What an amazing ministry it is.  Over the years we have seen the “least of the least”, children with special needs absolutely neglected and forgotten by their country come into loving homes here in the states.  Skin and bones children unable to walk or smile have been transformed over a matter of weeks in their new families:

Some of my favorites are hereherehere and here.  Really, click and look at those kids.  The handful rescued from those dark places.

I am writing today to share with you something truly awful.  This little girl’s name is Teri Lynn.  Isn’t she just the cutest sweetest?  She is an orphan with Down Syndrome in Eastern Europe.  The really crappy thing is that in Eastern Europe, if special needs orphans don’t get adopted by the time they are four, they are sent to an ADULT MENTAL INSTITUTION where most of the children with Down Syndrome don’t survive even their first year!  How can this even be?  It makes me sick, and think of the holocaust!

Sweet Teri Lynn was transfered just a short while ago.

After just a few weeks in a mental institution, this is her new updated picture!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!  That sweet little girl!  This picture just makes me cry.  Her hair is shaved, her face looks like it has been hurt and abused and her poor eyes look like they have been drugged!  (Which she probably has been)

I am writing to you today to tell you that it is not too late for this sweet girl.  She is in a country where it is very expensive to adopt from, and although there are many families who would be willing to rescue Teri Lynn and bring her and others out of the institution and into their families, most cannot pay the huge cost upfront.

If these pictures stir up even the smallest amount of shock or sadness or worry or concern, please visit Teri Lynn’s page on Reeces Rainbow and donate. I promise that you won’t miss what you donate as much as she will miss having a family, or having a life.  Children in these asylums lie in cribs all day, totally devoid of human interaction.

I can’t even imagine a child changing this quickly

You’d think children being locked away in dark institutions is a relic of the past, but it’s still so true today.  Look at this sweet face, what if it was your child, a child you knew?

To learn more about the institutions where the children are sent, watch this, although it’s difficult, here

Oh my . . . I have been praying all day and awaiting emails from the Australian government. . . The awful thing is Australians cannot adopt from Russia . . . I am waiting to hear if there is any hope for us to offer her a home. Blessings to you x x x

Wow! Poor girl. My son has Down syndrome and I would never be able to imagine someone doing something so cruel! Thank you for linking up and sharing this ministry with us.

    Okay. wow. that was intense.
I have a cousin who has down syndrome and I just could not imagine… I am finding it difficult to even utter/write a sentence right now.

First, I LOVE YOU for posting this. Anything that has to do with charity, especially children with special needs…I have a passion for.

Teri Lyn is beautiful and it is awful to imagine that she is getting NO social interaction. The longer she stays there, the more difficult it will be for her to learn/regain what she missed!

<3 I will pass this along to friends and family...maybe even do a post about it as well!

P.S. you are such an amazing mom – I just thought you might like to hear that (even though I’m sure you hear it all the time!!)

Oh wow, that’s just wrong! I don’t even know where to begin telling you how incredibly heartbreaking that is. I’m totally speechless 🙁

    My heart just broke. 🙁
Thanks for posting this, I will be linking up to you, and blogging about this as well. So so sad. I had no idea this was going on. 🙁

Thank you for posting this. I re-posted this onto my blog, as well as donated as much as I could to rescue her. I’m heart broken looking at her sweet face.
